Installation Requirements

Before you install ZoneAlarm, make sure your computer complies with the installation requirements.

32-bit / 64-bit, 2 GB RAM

2 GHz or faster processor

1.5GB of available hard-disk space

Microsoft® Windows 7 SP1

32-bit / 64-bit , 2 GB RAM

Microsoft .NET framework

version 3.5 or later

Note - If a supported Microsoft .NET Framework is not installed, it gets installed with the ZoneAlarm.

Compatibility Requirements

ZoneAlarm is only compatible with MS Windows Defender, and is not compatible with any other antimalware software (e.g. AVAST, Symantec, Kaspersky, McAfee, etc.). To install ZoneAlarm, you must first uninstall other antimalware software. Otherwise you may experience OS stability issues and computer performance issues.

Installing ZoneAlarm

To Install ZoneAlarm:

  1. Go to ZoneAlarm homepage http://www.zonealarm.com/
  2. From the ZoneAlarm homepage, go to PC security and select your ZoneAlarm product.
  3. Click the Buy Now next to the ZoneAlarm section.
    Note: If an upgrade offer dialog box shows, you can choose to upgrade your order, or click No thanks, proceed to checkout.
  4. Follow the checkout instructions.
    When the checkout is complete, the File Download dialog box opens.
  5. Click Run.
    The ZoneAlarm Install window opens.
  6. Select a language from the list in the top right corner. The options are:
    • English
    • French
    • German
    • Italian
    • Spanish
    The user interface language changes to the selected one.
  7. Continue with one of these installation procedures.
    • Quick Install ("Quick Installation" on page 10)
    • Custom Install ("Custom Installation" on page 10)

Quick Installation

To start Quick Install:

  1. Select a language from the drop-down menu in the right top corner of the installation window.
  2. Click Quick Install.
    The ZoneAlarm Install window opens and the End User License Agreement screen shows.
  3. Click Agree.
    The installation begins and the installation progress shows.
  4. Enter your email address. This is required to receive ZoneAlarm updates and upgrades.
  5. Click Finish to exit the installation dialog.
    NOTE: On Windows XP systems, the reboot prompt window appears. Click Reboot.
    The system reboots and ZoneAlarm starts by default. Click Close to exit this window.

Custom Installation

To start Custom Install:

  1. Select a language from the drop-down menu in the right top corner of the installation window.
  2. Click Custom Install.
  3. Click Agree.
  4. In the next screen, select Application Control Mode:
    Set Application Control to AUTO-LEARN mode - Automates security settings configuration based on user behavior
    Set Application Control to MAX SECURITY mode - Lets you manually control each of your application settings
  5. Click Next.
    The installation begins and the installation progress shows.
  6. Enter your email address. This is required to receive ZoneAlarm updates and upgrades.
  7. Click Finish to exit the installation dialog.
    NOTE: On Windows XP systems, the reboot prompt window appears. Click Reboot.
    The system reboots and ZoneAlarm starts by default. Click Close to exit this window.

Updating the Product

By default, Product Updates are enabled and run at the same time as the Antivirus Updates

To control Product Updates:

  1. From the client main menu toolbar, select Tools > Scheduled Tasks.
    The Scheduled Tasks window opens.
  2. Select Disable or Enable from Product Update drop-down menu.
  3. Click OK.

Uninstalling ZoneAlarm

To uninstall ZoneAlarm:

  1. Open the Programs section of the MS Windows Control Panel.
    The name of this section depends on your operating system:
    OS Version Section

    Microsoft Windows 7

    Windows 8 (Classic View)

    Windows 10

    Programs and Features
    Add or Remove Programs
  2. Select the ZoneAlarm and click Uninstall.
  3. Follow the Uninstall wizard steps.
Note - You must reboot the system at least once before you uninstall ZoneAlarm.
